World Time Attack Challenge

Last month, Otomoto had a trade stand at the World Time Attack Challenge (aka Superlap) at Eastern Creek. It was a great event for us, with D1 star Toshiki Yoshioka driving our S13 drift car. With Yokohama Advan tyres the car was very grippy, so we had to increase the boost to match. 'Toshiking' was impressive to watch, always hitting the clipping points and following the ideal line around the last three corners at Eastern Creek.

Thanks to all the people who came to our stand to say hello. We're already looking forward to next year.

Universal camber tops

Designed to be used in conjunction with our HSD sleeve kits, our blank camber tops can be adapted to almost any car using struts. The top plate is not drilled, so it can be trimmed and drilled to suit your strut tower. Two sets of studs are supplied to suit most applications. In the kit you get two plates with pillow-ball sliders, 12 studs, two tapered spacers and two M14 sleeve nuts (to suit most strut inserts). Alternative sleeve nuts are available to order.

AE86 coilover kit now available

After a long time in R&D (couple of years actually) we are proud to release the new HSD HR-type coilover kit for AE86 Sprinter, Trueno, Levin and equivalent Toyota chassis numbers.

This is a true bolt-in kit, with all the best stuff for this model.

The front units feature an inverted mono-tube damper, with a special offset pillow-ball camber plate that also gives a caster increase.

The inverted damper means you have a thick top shaft for maximum strength and reduced unsprung weight. A complete stub-axle is included, with roll-centre adapters and longer bolts under the unit to reduce bump-steer. As the damper is inverted the adjuster is hidden inside the base, so for easy adjustment an extended adjustment knob is included, with a stay to keep it out of harm's way. Like all HSD HR-type coilovers, the height adjustment is made at the base of the unit and there is a slot cut in the side so you can easily see how much lower or higher you can go.
The rear features adjustable-length mono-tube dampers with 15-step damping adjustment, plus an adjustable spring seat and new short spring. As this kit is designed for drift and race AE86 cars the included spring rates are 8kg front and 6kg rear. Any rate can be swapped into the front, but at this stage 6kg is the only rate for the rear. More rates will be available according to demand.

Due to the complexity of the kit the price is a little higher than other HR-type kits at $1899, but this is still miles cheaper than equivalent kits from Japan.

ASIA AUTO SALON October 2009

We recently attended the inaugural Asia Auto Salon in Singapore, where OS Giken had a large stand promoting some of their latest products. The new RB315 race engine was on display along with a new TCD type diff centre to suit R35 GT-Rs. The show was essentially a trade expo, with many manufacturers from Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and other parts of South East Asia including Australian companies Haltech and Whiteline. There were loads of promo girls of course, plus drift demos in the carpark outside with drivers from Japan, Malaysia and Gold Coast drifter Jerome Kennedy. Jerome blew a diff on the second day but swapped it over quickly. One Japanese driver in a red FD3S RX7 hit the tyre barrier and popped his radiator but there were still plenty of people lining up for free rides. The crowds were nothing like you see at the Tokyo Auto Salon, but this was only the first event in Singapore so it is expected to grow a lot next year.
